Killed in Action the Somme 11 August 1916.  Entry into service was30 July 1915.  Buried Serre Road Cemetery No2

Patrick Etherington Short Regimental No 7800, 96th MGC.

 

Patrick enlisted November 1915, Liverpool and served from April 1916 on the western front. he was also awarded the Military Medal.  Patrick survived the war.

PROJECTS

Jan Mayer. Born 11 June 1918

Sgt 312  (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF 1940-1945 Huricane, Spitfire.

Jan was posted from No 145 Sqn.   He was pre-war CzAF pilot with Air Regiment 3.  On 10.08.39, he escaped to France with Czechoslovak Army Depot in 1940.  Was posted to its air group and on 6.6.40 arrived at Bordeaux.  The following month he reached United Kingdom. 

 

After training he was posted to No 145 Sqn September-November 1941 and posted to 312 Sqn 1942.  Jan was posted  to 61 OTU as a flying instructor.  Promoted to Warrant officer.  I assisted research, with the family in tracing Jan's combat records, which was a prvilage to help.  Jan sadly passed away on the 12 January 2013. 

L/Cpl William Saynor 15th Bn Prince of Wales West Yorkshire Regiment (Leeds Pals) Killed in action 1st July 1916 Serre.
 

William enlisted early 1915 and date of entry into service was 22 December 1915.  He served in Egypt and France the Somme in 1916, remembered with honour on the Thiepval Memorial
